Denali Skydance

Denali Skydance

30" x 20"

Mount McKinley, also called Denali, looms over a bull Caribou wandering through the arctic night. Above, the ever changing spectacle of the Aurora or Northern lights dance in the sky.

Earthshine

Earthshine

17" x 25"

When we experience a thin crescent moon on earth, the moon has a nearly full Earth in its sky.  Since the Earth is far more reflective than the moon, it acts like a great mirror bouncing light onto the Moon’s darkened hemisphere; hence the term “Earthshine.”  This view is similar to what one would see through a low power telescope viewing the scene with ancient bristle cone pines in the foreground.  The brilliant planet Venus shines to the upper left.

Flight from the Tempest

Flight from the Tempest

18" x 24"

Although it is often acknowledged that wildlife must contend with predators, we frequently overlook dangers presented by their environment. They too must cope with the dangers of violent weather. Here a young doe flees to safer ground, as a sudden thunderstorm catches her in the open.

Oasis of Light

Oasis of Light

24" x 36"

A brilliant shaft of sunlight pours through the gaping entrance of a yet undiscovered subterranean labyrinth.  Plants flourish only in the narrow zone where light can reach.  Stalactites, stalagmites, columns and other limestone adornments recede into the mysterious regions of darkness.

Olympic Dawn

Olympic Dawn

20" x 30"

Sunlight filters though the dense forest canopy, dissipating the morning fog and illuminating the edge of a coastal forest in Washington's Olympic National Park. A lofty snag serves as a Pacific Ocean lookout for a bald eagle searching for his morning meal. These birds, our national symbol, are common to this area, the last true wilderness beach in the lower forty-eight states.

The Rejected Prophet

The Rejected Prophet

22" x 28"

The cloud shrouded summits of California's Sierra Nevada range loom beyond bizarre granite formations in the Alabama Hills, a setting for countless Western movies. The central monolith resembles a forlorn and rejected ancient prophet trudging over a hill to his wilderness retreat.
